There are 27 books in the New Testament and they fall in three different categories. Each category is a type of literature. The three types of literature found in the New Testament include History, Letters and Prophecy.
History: The first four books are called the Gospels and they provide accurate description and record of Jesus Christ. Acts, which is part 2 of Luke, is about the early church.
Letters: All of Paul’s letters except for Philemon were written to Christian groups.
Prophecy: The book of Revelation was written by the apostle John. It contains seven letters to churches.
